Work Stages in Interior Design
The process we use for managing a client’s interior design project is aligned with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) work stages. The RIBA’s process allows an organised plan of work which includes briefing, designing, constructing and operating.
Brief
A comprehensive and collaborative approach is key when it comes to identifying a client's requirements and ideas. It allows us to establish a strong base for our work by creating a tactical brief that outlines the project objectives and desired outcomes. By engaging in open and effective communication with our clients, we can assess how much involvement is needed from our team to bring their vision to life. Through this process, we ensure that every step we take is aligned with the client's goals and expectations, resulting in a successful and mutually beneficial partnership.
2. Concept
Once the brief and design fee proposal have been agreed, a full laser survey is carried out on the space in question. Following this, a research and development of the ideas is carried out to deliver the concept design for the project, including a mood board, samples, furnishings and preliminary cost information. At this point alterations to brief are agreed and the final project brief is issued.
3. Developed Design
Throughout the design development stage we get into the specifics of the design scheme. We'll elaborate the internal layouts and specify key finishes and materials for the floors, walls, furniture etc. while we work on the lighting concepts and M&E requirements for final sign off.
4. Technical Drawings
With everything confirmed we create a detailed technical pack of drawings which might include: building plan; reflected ceiling plan; lighting plan; electrical plan; plumbing points plan; sections and elevations; scheduled specifications and, joinery detailed plans. After that the cost estimation is updated.
5. Construction & Implementation
Once the final design scheme has been approved, I manage all the various elements in accordance with your timescales and budget. Helping you to maintain the focus and momentum of your project, so that the designs of your new space are implemented in an organised and timely way.
